STEMspire at UNC: Empowering Students to Lead Through xxxÖ±²¥ 

STEMspire at UNC is a paid, five-week summer mentored research program supporting students historically marginalized by STEM because of race, ethnicity, gender identity, generational status, disability, rural background, and income. STEMspire financially supports participants as they engage in an authentic research project. Building on the known benefits of a near-peer mentoring relationship, the research experience is guided by a graduate student from a STEM discipline. In addition, STEMspire provides opportunities to demystify the academic process, network with professionals, faculty, and graduate students, and engage in a cohort experience designed to increase students’ sense of belonging.

STEMspire at UNC is a collaborative effort to provide support for students, mentors, and faculty:

    UNC is a member of the (LSAMP) Program. We are members of theworking to increase the number of Black/African American, Native American, Hispanic/Latino, Pacific Islander, and Alaska Native students earning bachelor's degrees in STEM.

  Office of Undergraduate xxxÖ±²¥ (OUR)

  STEMspire is collaborating with the the Office of Undergraduate xxxÖ±²¥ (OUR) , with their goal of providing support and recognition for undergraduate student research at UNC.

   

  STEM Inclusive Excellence Collective (STEM-IEC)

  The STEM-IEC  collaborates with STEMspire by providing support for our mentors and staff, helping to advance purposeful, inclusive practices of teaching and learning in STEM at UNC.
